Ask A Vet!

Well, we've all had a pretty uneventful six months since my last post, except for two weeks ago when Dovi was diagnosed with Lyme Disease a-GAIN!

We went to an excellent emergency veterinary hospital right on Rt. 6 in Swansea,MA

Bay State Veterinary Emergency Services
www.bsves.net
76 Baptist Street
Swansea, MA 02777-3318
(508) 379-1233

The vet was excellent and it was a clean facility, very calming for Dovi, who is always a wreck when he goes to the vet. Dovi and I highly recommend it!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

A Happy New Year to all creatures, great and small.

Our boys have been romping in the snow, enjoying time under the Christmas Tree and now, napping after a beautiful hour at the park. This photo of Dovi was taken Christmas morning. Our Scully was under his blankie and did NOT want to get up- not even a bribe worked!

I have been spending much time signing petitions and working on my website...dedicating time to personal growth and completing my goals for the New Year.

I ask you always keep our animal companions and all creatures mindful in your daily actions...re-use what you can. Recycle what you can and try to eat more vegetarian meals this year. It will help you feel better, be healthier...save the planet...and thereby our animals!

HAPPY NEW YEAR from Scully, Dovi, Whiskers and Me!

Tiger Lily - Tortured NYC Kitten Update - Your Letters Worked!

I posted several months ago about a tiny kitten who was put in an oven and baked to death.
Her name was Tiger Lily and here is her photo. This is an update from IDA- In Defense of Animals.
"

After nearly five months of repeated adjournments, IDA was pleased by the strong prosecution of 17-year-old Cheyenne Cherry who, along with a 14-year-old juvenile accomplice, roasted a helpless kitten to death in May “as a joke” against a former roommate.

Just as progress on the case appeared to stall with multiple adjournments, IDA learned in November that the defendant’s prior plea deal had been rejected. After re-evaluating Cherry’s plea bargain with the Bronx County Supreme Court, Judge Margaret Clancy withdrew the agreement, determining it was illegal to reduce a violent felony charge to a non-violent charge.

Ms. Cherry’s initial plea bargain was rejected and prosecutors offered a new agreement in which she could plead guilty to animal cruelty in exchange for two years in prison.

Thanks to you, the court received hundreds of letters in response to this cruel case. Clearly, the voice of the public helped bring attention to the seriousness of this case and the need for strong prosecution. Though nothing will ever undo the terrible suffering of this poor kitten, prosecutors and the judge were enlightened about the importance of bringing charges of animal cruelty, along with a stiff sentence.

IDA encourages brief letters of thanks (no e-mails please) to the prosecutors and the judge:

Play this game to save dogs

Scully and Dovi are in bed...enjoying warm blankets and dreams of doggie biscuits. They're very much loved...

Unfortunately, there are millions of dogs and cats, roly-poly puppies and fluffy kittens who don't have a home...who may be euthanized tomorrow...because they are unwanted. It's a travesty...

Please help save homeless shelter cats and dogs by playing a simple trivia game. Each correct answer sends food to shelters to help save innocent pet lives. Play to Save Dogs

Scully, Dovi and Whiskers thank you...so do the beautiful, loving animals you'll save...

Guardians Magazine - Quarterly Magazine of In Defense of Animals

Enjoying the Autumn and Our 10 Year Anniversary.

Well, after a great summer, Scully is having a BLAST this Fall! He's enjoying walks in his favorite park- sniffing through leaves, barking at geese and birds...being otherwise his charming self.

As a wonderful note, we celebrated 10 years together, yesterday, November 15th, 2009. Of course, I was teary-eyed, remembering the first time I saw him at the Animal Shelter in Warren. He was so tiny and shy....so emaciated but sweet. When I gently placed him in the front seat next me, he sat there as if he'd always been there. It was beautiful, the ride home...he fell asleep in the sun- Goodness knows I have DOZENS of photos of him just sleeping in the sun...He never wanted to leave my side...We'll discuss separation anxiety in another post! ;)

He's barking at me as I write this, so I'll close and go play with him...isn't that what it's all about- enjoying the moments as they happen?
