Tiger Lily - Tortured NYC Kitten Update - Your Letters Worked!
I posted several months ago about a tiny kitten who was put in an oven and baked to death.
Her name was Tiger Lily and here is her photo. This is an update from IDA- In Defense of Animals.
"
After nearly five months of repeated adjournments, IDA was pleased by the strong prosecution of 17-year-old Cheyenne Cherry who, along with a 14-year-old juvenile accomplice, roasted a helpless kitten to death in May “as a joke” against a former roommate.
Just as progress on the case appeared to stall with multiple adjournments, IDA learned in November that the defendant’s prior plea deal had been rejected. After re-evaluating Cherry’s plea bargain with the Bronx County Supreme Court, Judge Margaret Clancy withdrew the agreement, determining it was illegal to reduce a violent felony charge to a non-violent charge.
Ms. Cherry’s initial plea bargain was rejected and prosecutors offered a new agreement in which she could plead guilty to animal cruelty in exchange for two years in prison.
Thanks to you, the court received hundreds of letters in response to this cruel case. Clearly, the voice of the public helped bring attention to the seriousness of this case and the need for strong prosecution. Though nothing will ever undo the terrible suffering of this poor kitten, prosecutors and the judge were enlightened about the importance of bringing charges of animal cruelty, along with a stiff sentence.
IDA encourages brief letters of thanks (no e-mails please) to the prosecutors and the judge:
